A safety light curtain manual reset is not a convenience feature. It is a restart-prevention decision tied to whole-body access, pass-through hazards, reset button location, OSSD behavior, and whether the machine can restart with a person still inside the guarded area.
Safety sensor pricing is negotiable, but not in the way most buyers think. The real leverage sits in volume, model standardization, drawings, lead time, payment terms, and documentation scope—not in stripping out safety functions or forcing a supplier into a risky shortcut.
Safety Light Curtains are not selected by beam count, price, or catalog confidence. They are selected by risk, stop time, access geometry, fault tolerance, IEC 61496 device type, and ISO 13849 performance level. Here is the hard version.
PLC status monitoring is useful. Ethernet reset is convenient. But when safety light curtains, safety lidars, interlocks, and emergency stops are involved, convenience can become evidence in an accident file.
ISO 13849 does not magically approve your start button, stop circuit, or reset station. It forces you to define the safety function, assign PLr, design the SRP/CS, validate behavior, and prove that reset does not become a disguised restart command.
